Fancy hats and horses

Kentucky is best known for horse farms and whiskey distilleries. Every year the two come together at the Kentucky Derby, where the boldest racegoers celebrate in over-the-top Derby hats.

The Mint Julep has been the official drink of the race since 1939, and around 120,000 are served over the two-day event. Traditionally it comes in a silver or pewter cup, which lets frost form on the outside. At home, a plain glass works just fine – with or without a crazy hat.
